POWER Up (PrEP Optimization Among Women to Enhance Retention and Uptake) Provider Training

January 10, 2024 to June 30, 2024
This activity will improve healthcare providers' ability to identify Black cisgender women who may benefit from PrEP and increase their confidence in discussing and prescribing PrEP.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for healthcare professionals who can prescribe PrEP and work at healthcare centers participating in the POWER Up study.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recall how to initiate client-centered conversations that help Black women develop internal motivation to consider PrEP;
  • Recognize short, accessible ways to share information about PrEP effectiveness, address misconceptions about PrEP, and explain reasons for suggesting PrEP;
  • Identify PrEP indications for Black cisgender women;
  • State how to follow recommended clinical and lab monitoring procedures for PrEP clients;
  • Describe the biological principles of PrEP and HIV prevention;
  • Discuss PrEP regimens, dosing, safety, efficacy, clinical indications, and eligibility;
  • Illustrate effective communication skills for conversations with Black women about PrEP;
  • Explain recommendations for counseling before PrEP initiation
  • Examine the need for PrEP adherence among Black cisgender women.
